ABOUT THE SCHOOL TO FOOTBALL PITCH PROGRAMME. The school to football pitch programmed is designed to catch and prepared school pupils within the ages of 6-15 years who has the natural talents to become great potentials professional footballers side by side their education. The money spinning nature of professional football has become the special attraction for our young stars that now abandoned their educational pursuit at a very tender age to participate in youth football as a stepping-stone to prosperity. A ticket out of poverty. But we all know that in spite of the huge money, glamour and excitement of professional football, all professional footballers, whether they are stars or just hardworking pro's, have to face inescapable fact; their playing carriers are short lived. There aren't many players who can command a first team place after the age of 35. And there is the constant danger that injury will end their career prematurely and with no warning. Ex-footballers also face a further disadvantage because they are likely to come into the job market at a time when people in other profession have completed their training and just starting to reap the financial rewards. The Nanf has long recognized this aspect of footballers life which is fraught with problems, that is why it has set up" the school to football pitch programmed" inco-operating the concept of the "educational trust" with four clear aims in mind. (a) To persuade players to think as early as possible about what they want to do with their lives after their playing days are over. (b) To help players find the course and training that will help them make a success of their second career. (c) To guide against situations where young players stumble into millions of US dollars over night without preparations for such fortunes. (d) To provide grounds to talented footballers to pursue their education while playing football. Graduates from this programmed will involve in our organized age group competitions in the secondary schools, where they will be further prepared and exposed to the rudiments of the game and the ethics professional football. From the secondary school programmed, those willing to take professional football as a career has the option of our " open college" programmed practically designed to offer a wide range of practical and relevant professional courses. Players playing in the professional league can now learn without attending the college and university concerned, they will learn mainly through work books, TV programmers, video and audio tapes. About 6 million Nigerian children to benefit from the programmed, which is being managed and delivered by reputable and informed ex-footballers under the auspices of the "nanf professional footballers development scheme" in conjunction with the ministry of education which will provide employment for more than fifteen thousand (15,000) ex-footballers in the country. The major basics of the programmed are formed by millions of young players of all ages at the grassroots. Therefore the training of our young players should not be left in the hands of every dick and Harry. Apart from exposing our youth to a wide range of skills that will enable them to take up the second career at retirement, the programmed will put and end to the recurring problem of over age cheats in our football. Conclusion. In the light of the above, we humbly ask that the ministry of education should about this unique programmed as an academic discipline in Nigerian primary and secondary schools. The programmed has already been adopted in Zimbabwe, equatorial guinea, Tanzania and the republic of the Gambia and its gaining wide currency within the African continent.
